Bio

Tahra Charmaine

I was born in Sacramento, California and grew up in the Santa Cruz mountains.  One of 7 kids, lived down a dirt road and closest neighbor was 2 miles away. At the age of 8 I started singing and songwriting while riding my horse White Cloud.  I could ride all day in the mountains on old logging roads and not see a single soul. After escaping high school, I moved to Oregon to pursue songwriting. While living and performing in Portland Oregon and attending Marylhurst College my songwriting partner and I met a ‘song-scout’ from Nashville, Tennessee. He asked us to fly to Nashville and record our songs with some of Nashville’s best musicians…2 weeks later we were there and, in the studio, and life had changed forever. I never looked back or went back for any of my stuff and lived out of my suitcase for the next year writing, recording and performing. What a great yet hard time that was as I was only 20, no family around and hungry. My favorite songwriter and the music that always lifted me up and gave me hope was the artist, ‘John Prine.’ If it hadn’t been for his music, I’m not sure what I would have done. And best part…he became a close friend. He encouraged me to keep following my passion for music. And one of my favorite audiences was performing for children. That led me to produce a live children's show in Nashville, Tennessee for 15 years called, ‘Kid’s Club’. I brought in artists from around the country who would perform for the children in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. Boom D*A productions was alive and well. About 5 years in I was approached by a man who had worked for PBS and told me, “You need to take your show to them!” “This needs to be seen by the masses!” That led to the T.V. show/interstitial called, ‘Tahra*Time’ that was broadcast on PBS throughout the country for the next 10 years.  The show was fortunate to have much critical success and, in 2001, I received an Emmy nomination. What an amazing time that was reaching so many little souls! In addition to children's music and entertainment, I have done extensive work in and around country music working and performing with such artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jim Lauderdale, Hank Williams Jr, George Thorogood and many others. My career has also included performing in music videos, writing the music for T.V. commercials, and event production as well as songwriting for the NFL Pro-Bowl half-time shows and the senior Olympics. In 2008, my mother became pretty ill and I decided to take a break from the Nashville scene to move closer to her. Long story short, since her passing I got married to my husband Kevin Waller. I’m still writing songs, producing events and we now live in Idaho most of the time. I say most of the time because Kevin is a movie producer and we’re partners in a recording studio in Oklahoma called ‘Castle Row Studios’. Our business is called ‘The Post Hero’ where we work on the post-production of his movies. I’m currently recording and writing songs and producing events and hope to have a new album out sometime soon. Still though, the pursuit of happiness and bringing love to others is my main goal whether through music or smiles, whichever is needed…I’m there.
